Well it was a nice day, sunny and a bit windy but beautiful. Decided the bus ride into the near by town would be a nice adventure. I learned a lot taking the bus. One; the cabbies in NY with all their reputation are whimps compared to Korean bus drivers. They are indeed a breed of their own! The minute they can close the door and hoprfully not take someone's arm off they floor it. No time to sit, or even pay your fare. Just GONE! I'm surprised there are not finger gouges in every pole on the bus. Fortunately for me there was an older gentleman on the bus who spoke pretty good English who told me to sit in the tiny single seat in front of him. He stated "it for old people, seniors, old". Thanks buddy....
The very next stop an elderly woman got on and she no sooner got to the top of the steps and he floored it again. He shot her half way down the aisle before she could grab something and hold on and fight the "G" forces to get into a seat. Apparently marked cross walks are a special treat to the drivers as well. When he approached the one by the main gate to the campus that was FULL, he simply blew the horn and kept right on going. Students scattered both ways and thankfully I didn't hear any "thumps". I spent the rest of the trip trying to find a few select words in my Korean/English dictionary but could not find the particular ones I wanted to share with the driver. By the way, the 10 minute trip into town costs $1,100.00 each way ($1.10 USD)
Once in town it was a great time. I actually saw a Baskins and Robbins, and a 7-11. I stayed out of both and just enjoyed investigating the Korean shops. There were an amazing variety of shops. I think I saw more cell phone shops than anything. Loads of street vendors, one which I tried looked like she was making little pastries the size of a big marshmallow, fried golden brown.. Still not sure what it was that was inside the pastry, but all 5 they sell together were good. Probably best not to know. The "underwear shops were interesting. The mannequins in the window were "unique". The females were normal sized and the males well, seemed to be mutant in a particular respect. A picture is worth a thousand words! Enjoy!
